Voter Card or Voter ID Card is a very important identity card for citizens of India which is issued by the Election Commission. It is an ‘Elector’s Photo Identity Card’ (EPIC) issued to every adult citizen of India.

In India, the world’s largest democracy, the right to vote is a fundamental right and every citizen must have this card to vote. As this voter card contains the name, address, age of the citizen, this card is used not only for voting but also as a KYC document as address and age proof.

What is voter card?

When any citizen of India becomes eligible to vote at the age of 18, a voter ID or card is issued by the Election Commission. This card is usually available as a laminated card, but you can apply online for a PVC voter card.

A voter card contains the following information:

• Voter ID or Number
• Photo of the voter
• State hologram
• Voter’s name in English and local language
• Voter’s Father’s Name
• Gender of voter
• Voter’s Age / Date of Birth
• Voter’s Address
• Signature of Returning Officer
• Assembly constituencies
• Date of Issue of Voter Card

Voter Card Search

You can search voter card from online portal in the following ways:

• You need to go to voter service portal voters.eci.gov.in.



• On the home page itself in the ‘Services’ section click on ‘Search in Electoral Roll’ or you can directly click Voter Card Search.

Here you can search in three ways namely ‘Search by Details’, ‘Search by EPIC’ and ‘Search by Mobile’.

Search by Details

• On this page you can search by entering some voter details. Some fields are mandatory like State Name, Voter’s Name, Relative’s Name, Date of Birth, Age and Gender. Apart from this information there are some optional fields like Language, Voter’s Designation, Relative’s Designation, District Name and Assembly Constituency Name.



• After filling the mentioned information and filling the captcha and clicking on ‘Search’, the details of the voter can be seen below.

Search by EPIC

• You can also search by ‘Election Photo Identity Card’ number i.e. voter card number. On this page, just enter the voter card number and search by filling the captcha, then the voter details can be seen below.

Search by Mobile

• Besides, if the mobile number is linked with the voter card, then the details can be searched through the mobile number as well. On this page you have to enter the mobile number and fill the captcha and click on ‘Send OTP’.



• All the details of the voter can be seen by entering the OTP received on the registered mobile and clicking on ‘Search’.
• If there is no mobile number associated with the voter card then a message will appear that ‘Mobile Number not registered’. In that case you can update the voter card through Form 8.



• If you provide the correct information, the search results will show the voter details in the following table.

Voter card revision

Voter card is a very important government identity card so it is imperative that all the details on this card are correct and up-to-date. Any misspelling or wrong name needs to be corrected immediately and can be easily done online.

You can make any kind of correction in voter card in the following ways:

• You have to visit the official portal of voter service voters.eci.gov.invoters.eci.gov.in and click on ‘Sign-Up’.



• Here you can give the mobile number and if you want to give the email id, then fill the captcha and click on ‘Continue’. Your sign-up process will be completed through OTP verification. Then you have to login in the same way.
• Then you have to click on ‘Fill Form 8’ from ‘FORMS’ on the home page. Through this form 8 you can do address update in case of change of residence, correction of any entry in voter list, replacement of voter card etc.



• Then you will get two options, you will be asked whether you want to update your voter card or any other voter card. You have to select what you want and submit.



• Then you will get four important options respectively,
  • Shifting Of Residence
  • Correction Of Entries In Existing Electoral Poll
  • Issue Of Replacement EPIC Without Correction
  • Request For Marking As Person With Disability
• In this case, since correction is being talked about, you have to click on the second option ‘Correction Of Entries In Existing Electoral Poll’.
• Then you will reach the ‘Form B’ page, where you can enter the Aadhaar number, mobile number and email ID and then click on ‘Next’.
• Now if you want to correct the name then select ‘Name’ and write the correct name below. After entering the name you need to upload any official document like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Birth Certificate, Driving License etc. to prove it correct. Then click on ‘Next’.



• Then you have to fill the captcha and click on ‘Preview and Submit’, then you will see the complete form, check it once and click on ‘Submit’. Only then will your amendment application be complete. After that you can download the application acknowledgment by clicking on ‘Download Acknowledgment’. This Acknowledgment number is important because you can check the status later with the help of this number.

Voter Card Online Status Check

You can verify your voter card information through the online portal or if you have applied for a new voter card or any amendment, you can also check its status.

Follow the following steps to check voter card status online:

• You need to go to voter service portal voters.eci.gov.in.
• First you need to login, then click on ‘Track Application Status’ in the ‘Services’ section on the home page.
• Then you have to enter the ‘Reference Number’ or ‘Acknowledgment Number’ and select ‘State’ and ‘Submit’ to see the complete details of the application.

Voter card download

You can easily download your voter card from the online voter service portal, but in that case your mobile number must be linked with the voter card. You have to apply through ‘Form 8’ to add mobile number.

Follow the below procedure to download voter card:

• You need to go to voter service portal voters.eci.gov.in.
• First you have to ‘Sign Up’ and ‘Log In’. Then click on ‘E-EPIC Download’ in the ‘Services’ section on the home page.
• Then you have to enter voter ID and select the state below and click on ‘Search’. Then the information related to that Voter ID can be seen below.



• Below you will see the last four digits of the mobile number registered with the card, you need to click on ‘Send OTP’ next to it, then an ‘OTP’ will be sent to your registered mobile number and after the OTP is verified, your voter card PDF will be downloaded.
