Number systems are mainly divided into two categories. Namely –

What is Non Positional Number System?
In non-positional number system the value of numbers does not depend on their position and in this case the numbers have no base value or radix. This method is very difficult to calculate. This method is not used in general mathematical work.
Example: Roman Number System (Roman Number System). How many Roman letters or symbols are used to represent numbers in this system?
For example, in the Roman system, decimal numbers are expressed as 1 as I, 2 as II, 3 as III, 4 as IV, 11 as XI, 12 as XII etc.
What is positional number system?
In this type of number system, numbers have a specific Base Value or Radiex. Numbers are expressed in this way using a number of numbers or letters. In this case the value of numbers depends on their position. Positional number systems are divided into four categories. Namely –
