The ‘Right to Work’ Act through Job Card was passed in 2005 and implemented in 2006, named the ‘Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act’ or ‘MGNREGA’.
One of the objectives of the Job Card is to provide at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to at least one member of every household in rural areas under the act aimed at employment.

Job Card Checking Apps
If you want to check job card related matters, you can easily do it through mobile apps. You can also check the status from MGNREGA portal, but in that case you may have to search for the right option as there are many options in the portal. You can check job card through mobile apps in the following ways:
- You have to go to Google Play-Store and type ‘MGNREGA Guide‘, then click on ‘Install’ and after installation, click on ‘Open’.
- After opening the app, the list of all states of India will appear in front of you, from there you have to select the state.
- Then you have to enter the status of the financial year you want to see and the name of the district, name of the block and name of the panchayat and click on ‘Proceed’.
- Only then you will see the name and job card number of all the job card holders under the particular panchayat.
- Now from here you have to click on the job card number whose details you want to see.
- Here you can know the name, age and other family members of the job card holder, whether the family belongs to the poor category etc.
- If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see the details of each job of the job card holder such as when, for how many days, what work he has done.

How to apply for job on job card?
The job card holder has to approach the local Gram Panchayat or ‘Village Employment Council’ (VEC) or ‘Area Employment Council’ (AEC) if there is no prescribed form and apply for the job in writing mentioning the card number on a white paper.
