There are more than 90 lakhs of these self-help groups in the country, where about 100 crore women have been empowered and self-reliant, making a lot of changes in the rural socio-economic sphere.
Objectives of Lakhpati Didi Yojana
Many initiatives have already been taken by the Central and State Governments to engage the women of Bharat in various employments, to make them self-reliant and economically empowered, the benefits of which we can see in various fields. According to a 2023 report, the number of women entrepreneurs has increased by about 18% in the last 5 years.
Some of the objectives of women empowerment are mentioned below:
- According to a report by one of the country’s leading management consulting firms, there are about 1.5 crore women in India who are the owners of various industries and that is about 22% of the total industries in the country. So it is expected that if women are provided with proper support, the number of women entrepreneurs can be increased to around 3 crores in future.
- Another important reason for women’s empowerment is that India ranks 127 out of 146 on the World Economic Forum’s 2023 Gender Inequality Index, which is much better than the 2022 rank of 135.
- A large part of our country is rural area and these rural women constitute a major part of the population of India. Therefore, by educating and employing them in various technical fields, it is possible not only to improve their living conditions, but also to improve the social and financial sectors. This inclusion of rural women has an important role to play in moving the country forward in the future.
