The Lakshmir Bhandar Project is a flagship programme, i.e. the most important and large-scale initiative launched by the Government of West Bengal in 2021. The main objective of this scheme is to empower women and make them financially independent by providing government grants. The scheme is implemented under the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare.

The latest updates regarding Lakshmir Bhandar Project have come in the current month of November 2023, which are mentioned below-

• Not only from government camp in Duar, but from now on, applications for Lakshmir Bhandar scheme can be made at BDO office in rural areas, SDO office in urban areas and Citizen Municipal office in Kolkata.
• Now it is possible to apply for this scheme throughout the year and not for any specific period.
• Earlier, the government used to send money to all the beneficiaries at once after verifying the camp application form at the door. From now on, as soon as the application form is submitted, the money will be verified and sent to the Aadhaar linked bank account.
• After the Lakshmir Bhandar beneficiary reaches the age of 60 years, the Lakshmir Bhandar grant will automatically stop and the old age allowance will start, in which case each beneficiary will get ₹1000/-.
• For Lakshmir Bhandar earlier it was mandatory for applicants to have a health partner card, but now applicants will get the benefits of this scheme without this card.
• Lakshmir Bhandar project application will also be arranged through online in future.
• The number of new beneficiaries in this project is 9 lakh 5 thousand 265 people i.e. the total number of beneficiaries is 2 crore 7 lakh 42 thousand 301 people.

• Families having at least one income tax paying member cannot apply for this scheme.
• General category women having more than 2 hectares of land also cannot apply for this scheme.
• Women in permanent employment in any government, government-controlled organization, panchayat, municipality or municipal corporation will not get the benefit of this scheme.
• Women receiving regular salary or pension are also not eligible for this scheme.
• Beneficiary’s Aadhaar number should be linked with the bank account and the government grant will be directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account.
• The bank account should be a single account of the female applicant only.
• If the information or document provided by the applicant is found to be false, disciplinary action will be taken against the applicant.

The women beneficiaries of Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme will get the following financial assistance-

• Women from Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes families ₹1,000/- per month

How to Apply West Bengal Lakshmir Bhandar Project?

At present application for Lakshmir Bhandar scheme is only possible offline. You can apply for this scheme in the following ways-

• Application form duly filled, along with self-attested copies of required documents should be submitted at Duar Government Camp or above mentioned office.
• After submission of application form it will be duly verified by authorized government officials and list of eligible applicants will be recommended to District Magistrate. Then the list, under the supervision of Block Development Officer in rural areas or Sub-divisional Officer in urban areas, will be uploaded on the portal.
• Then the grant money of this scheme will be deposited monthly through ‘Direct Bank Transfer’ to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar linked bank account.

Lakshmir Bhandar beneficiaries can now easily check their application and government grant money status by mobile number. It will contain complete details including the date when and where the application was submitted, when it was verified and when it was approved.

When the money is remitted to the beneficiary’s account, it will be mentioned in the ‘Payment Status’ section below along with the bank account number and IFSC code, which month the beneficiary received the money.
