The Government of West Bengal has launched YogyaShree Scheme to provide free training for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) students of the state for competitive examinations, including Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), (WBJEE) and National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test or NEET (NEET). Training will be provided for its entrance and main exams. Also under this scheme SC/ST students will also be given preparatory education for admission to various government jobs.

What is YogyaShree Scheme?

The most important and arguably the most popular competitive exams in a student’s life are these joints and nets. But it is a pity that many students are unable to appear for the exam due to the expense of preparing for all these competitive exams.

The West Bengal government has taken an initiative to provide free coaching for JEE, WBJEE and NEET exams, but currently this facility is available only to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) students.

The project named ‘YogyaShree’ was launched in 2024 but the project has been running for the past two years. A total of 1440 Scheduled Castes and Tribes students are trained annually in 36 centers across the state and it is reported with great success that out of a total of 2880 students in two years, 2254 are placed in technical courses, 8 in IITs, 14 in NITs, 5 in IIITs. John and 34 were admitted to MBBS or BDS.

Motivated by this huge success, the West Bengal government looked to scale up the initiative further. 196 hours of training has been increased to 320 hours and the number of centers has been increased to 50 through this YogyaShree scheme, where a total of 2000 students can undergo training completely free of charge.

Apart from preparation for competitive examinations, SC and ST students will also be given training for various government jobs entrance examinations under the YogyaShree scheme.

Eligible project facilities

Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) students of West Bengal will get the following benefits under the YogyaShree scheme:

Free coaching for JEE, WBJEE and NEET exams

  • 40 seats in each of the 50 centers, a total of 2000 students can study.
  • Admission of students will be based on merit.
  • Two days a week, Saturday and Sunday, there will be 4 hours of classes per day.
  • There will be 100 hours for class XI, 200 hours for class XII and some special classes of 20 hours in Kolkata so students will have a total of 320 hours of classes.
  • Apart from this, there will be 30 hours of Mock Test which means students will get a total benefit of 350 hours.
  • Students will get a stipend of ₹300 per month subject to special conditions.

Free coaching for various government jobs entrance exams

  • Pre-examination training will be given for recruitment to Group-B, C and D posts in Banks, Railways, Post Offices, Military & Para-Military, Police, Government & Government Owned Organizations etc.
  • 2 centers have been established in each district.
  • The duration of the training is 6 months and there will be a total of 300 hours of classes.
  • Classes will be held 3 days a week for 4 hours per day.
  • A total of 2300 students will benefit from this training at 46 centers across the state.

Who is the Yogheshree Project for?

Students can apply for this YogyaShree scheme in the following cases:

  • Applicant must belong to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) of West Bengal.
  • Applicant must be science student of class XI.
  • Applicant’s family income should be less than 3 lakh rupees.

Currently, application for coaching for JEE / NEET / WBJEE – 2025 exams can be done from the official website of ‘West Bengal SC, ST and OBC Development and Finance Corporation’ at wbbcdev.gov.in.

But the application for the training for the entrance exam of government jobs has not started yet. As per the official announcement the application process will start from February 2024.
